UTSAV- celebrating innocence…..

23rd day of October month brought a gleaming patina of smiles, as AIESEC Jodhpur set in motion with its opening event in the city- ‘UTSAV 2011’. Emotions over flowed as kids from slums all around the city stepped in “Shri Vishwakarma School”- the venue which was to witness a cascade of smiles, laughter, fun and boundless talents.

These children live in a different world to the emerging middle class. Taken as a separate nation, they have fallen through society’s cracks – there are few ladders for them to climb back up. This is where AIESEC Jodhpur played its part; we provided them with this ladder. We created a platform for these young children and celebrated one of the purest emotions - the innocence in a child. We at AIESEC believe that the small things that we do add up to something major one day.

The day started off with the arrival of children from slums, orphanages and government schools in the vicinity of Jodhpur. They were served with refreshments- healthy bananas, yummy samosas and thirst quenching Frooties.
Then the children were indulged in little play offs with the volunteers and the members of AIESEC in Jodhpur. That was the time … an amazing feeling that brought back our childhood memories – with rounds of dog in the pond, in-out, sprints, kabaddi, tug of war, kho kho, blind-fold, chain-chain….

UTSAV was the time where many of us learnt a lot from the children as well…Singing and dancing on the tunes of the Marwari folk songs are the recollections which would always be kept close to our hearts…

The cultural event started with ‘lightening of lamp’ by our Guest of honor Mrs. Susheela Bohra- also known as the first female social activist of Rajasthan, inaugurated the event with encouraging & motivational stories for the children.

Event then kick started with the ‘Talent Show’. Children mimicked, joked and showcased ‘what it takes to be a KID’… hilarious performances with some serious filmi dialogues left us all astound. Mrs. Susheela Bohra was over-whelmed with the efforts put in by the city youth; she appreciated AIESEC in Jodhpur for taking such an initiative. Her words multiplied our enthusiasm. A special session of ‘Art of Living’ was delivered to make the young minds aware of the true essence of inner self, children thoroughly enjoyed the little activities done as a part of this session.

Hours flew by so quickly that it was lunch time already.

After an hour of lunch and playtime, the most awaited Drawing competition started. The children let their creativity flow onto the canvas and painted their imaginations for the world to see.

The guests and corporate were so touched to see the enthusiastic children and youth, that Sangini Diamonds decided to completely sponsor, and take care of the education of two children for a year. This declaration made our day...

The excitement in the mass raised exponentially as the arrival of our Chief Guest for the Occasion- His Highness Maharaja of Jodhpur, Shri Gaj Singh Ji was announced.

He met the children and over viewed the proceedings of the Drawing Competition. The addressing words by Maharaja were indeed a matter of pride. He praised the kids and applauded the great work done by AIESEC.

He was impressed to see how the youth of the city had taken up a step ahead to bring about a change, that was one of its kind. He handed over the prizes to the winners of the various competitions and encouraged kids.

With 5 in the evening it was time to part…with kids leaving, they were distributed goodies. Bubyees and Tatass!!!  Hugs and smiles….

Something that we don’t have words for: The feelings… feeling of joy, the feeling of satisfaction, the feeling of contentment, the feeling of delight, the feeling while “it” was HAPPENING!

It took n number of meetings and discussions (fights, laughters, arguments, shouts, cries….) for every detail to be taken care of, the enormous efforts put in by every member and volunteer… the complete experience of delivering such a magnificent event can’t be forgotten…
UTSAV was special…. It had to be… Experience brought us close – closer to one and other, closer to what we call AIESEC Jodhpur…. Now we weren’t just members of AIESEC Jodhpur…WE WERE AIESEC JODHPUR!!!!
"Who RoCkS the party???
